Intellectual Property
Cyprus has enacted various laws in respect of intellectual property rights and is a member of various Organizations, both at European and international level, such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM). Moreover, it has adopted various Treaties and Conventions such as the European Patent Convention such as the Madrid Agreement concerning the International Registration of Marks (as adopted by Law 3(III)/2003).
In Cyprus, the responsible body for the registration of intellectual property rights and for keeping a database of registrable rights is the Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver.
Antonis Paschalides & Co LLC is able to conduct the preliminary legal research prior to registration in the records kept by the Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver, in order to advise clients on whether the legislative criteria for registration of any right may be satisfied or conduct search in the database of registered trademarks, patents or industrial designs to check whether there is a similar trademark, patent or industrial design already registered.
Any application to the Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver for the registration of any intellectual property rights has to be filed by a lawyer authorised to practice law in Cyprus. The firm is able to handle registrations of any national, community or international trademarks, patents, national industrial designs or registered community designs as well as domain name registrations, which are handled by the University of Cyprus, and support with clients whose rights have been infringed through litigation or arbitration proceedings.
